Description Nissan Leaf (ZE0)

Nissan Leaf is an electric car of the Japanese concern Nissan, mass-produced since the spring of 2010. The world premiere took place at the International Tokyo Motor Show in 2009. Japanese and American dealers of the company began accepting orders for the model on April 1, 2010, the assembly of the first serial copies began in Japan (Oppama), then since 2012, Nissan launched the production of Leaf electric vehicles at factories in the USA (Smyrna, Tennessee), and since March 2013 - in the UK (Sunderland). Production in Portugal was also supposed. Sales of the Nissan Leaf in the United States began on December 11, 2010 and were initially limited to online advance booking shipments. In Europe, sales unfolded from the first half of 2011.

At the end of November 2010, the Nissan LEAF was announced as the first electric car winner of the 2011 European Car of the Year competition. At the end of April 2011, the Nissan LEAF was also announced as the first winner of the 2011 World Car of the Year.

The Nissan Leaf is built on the new Nissan V platform, which the electric car shares with the Juke crossover and the 2011 subcompact Micra. Under the hood is an electric motor with a power of 80 kW (about 108 hp), whose torque reaches 280 Nm. The drive of the electric vehicle is front. The lower location of the heaviest element of the car - the battery - provides better stability compared to classmates. In addition, the battery also provides higher structural rigidity for five-door hatchbacks of this design.

A full charge cycle of batteries from a household power outlet with a voltage of 220 volts and a current of 30 amperes lasts about 8 hours, 80% of the capacity on a special Nissan charger (480 volts - 125 amperes) is replenished in 30 minutes. The car is equipped with two charger sockets at the front of the car: one for standard charging and one for fast charging [6] .

Batteries are currently being assembled at Nissan's facilities in Japan, with an annual production of about 65,000 sets per year. Nissan, as part of its project to start the mass production of electric vehicles, laid a plant in Smyrna (Tennessee, USA), the design capacity of which since its commissioning in 2012 is estimated at 200,000 sets per year.

With the start of electric vehicle production at Nissan's English plant in Sunderland (in parallel with the Quashqai crossover), as well as the construction of a battery factory there, the 2013 model received more than 100 improvements, among the most important - a powerful and efficient battery, which allowed to increase the mileage to 123 miles. (199 km) versus 109 miles (175 km) for the 2012 model. In addition, the recharging time from a public 6.6-kilowatt charger has been halved (to 4 hours). In the future, the Leaf will have an Around View parking camera, leather trim and more.

Tests show the Leaf's energy consumption of 765 kJ/km (21 kWh/100 km), which is equivalent to about 99 MPG (2.4 l/100 km).

In 2016, Nissan upgraded the Leaf electric car with a larger battery and added several features to help avoid wasted energy. Thanks to this, the range of the electric car increased by 26% and amounted to 250 kilometers.

The battery capacity of the 2016 Nissan Leaf will increase from 24 kWh to 30 kWh. By changing the internal structure and optimizing chemical processes, the size of the battery will remain the same, while the mass will increase by 21 kilograms. At the same time, the manufacturer's warranty on the power source is designed for 8 years or 160,000 kilometers.

The electric car was equipped with a NissanConnect EV system with a remote control function. It checks the charge level of the batteries before turning on the heating system on cold days to prevent premature battery discharge. In addition, the electric car can be remotely warmed up before the start of the trip without using battery power.

The updated Nissan Leaf will be produced at the same factory in Sunderland, UK as the current one. As previously reported, Nissan has already begun developing the next generation Leaf. According to preliminary data, the electric car will be presented in 2017. The model can get a top-end version with a power reserve of up to 500 kilometers on a single charge.
